What is the difference between LPN and RN?

RN:   Registered Nurse.

To qualify for an assessment for an RN position you need to have completed a 4-year Bachelor of Nursing Degree, have at least 3 to 5 years of related nursing experience, and should have completed an English Language Course such as TOEFL, CELBAN, or IELTS with an acceptable score. You should also have current registration in good standing with a professional nursing body. You should have criminal records check clearance as well as medical clearance and at least 3 good references.

LPN: Licensed Practical Nurse.

To qualify for an assessment for an LPN position you may have completed a certificate or diploma program in nursing from a credible institute, you may also be eligible if you are a Fresh B.Sc Nursing graduate with little or no work experience, should have completed an English Language Course such as TOEFL, CELBAN, or IELTS with an acceptable score. You should have criminal records check clearance as well as medical clearance and at least 3 good references.

What are the Language Proficiency Requirements?

One of the following;
TOEFL: combined score of 60 for reading, writing and listening. A minimum score of 26 for speaking. Minimum score of 213(computer based) and 550 (paper-based).
IELTS: 6.5 overall, 7 speaking, no score less than 6
CELBAN: speaking 8, listening 9, writing 7

What is a relocation allowance?

For eligible candidates who successfully complete the assessment and registration process and acquire a job in Canada the employer will pay up to a maximum of $5000 towards relocation expenses. This money will be reimbursed upon submission of valid receipts. As a result of this candidates will be able to recover part of their initial expenses paid to FSCI. FSCI will facilitate this reimbursement by providing necessary receipts and guiding the applicant.

Can I get a work visa with my temporary license?

Once you are assessed by either CLPNBC/CRNBC, or pass the assessment, you will be issued with a temporary license; you then have to register for an exam date. With your exam date and temporary license, FSCI will get you an employment letter from a healthcare employer with BC and subsequently apply for a temporary work permit.

What is the Provincial Nominee Program?

This is a special fast track immigration program in BC for which you may be eligible as you fall under a special category of profession. Once your temporary license is issued and you have a firm job offer, FSCI can help you fast track your immigration to Canada along with your immediate family with the help of the PNP program.

What provisions are available for my children’s education?

Your spouse will also get a work permit and can find employment based on his/her qualification. Once you are a landed immigrant, your children will be admissible to any public school free of charge. Children’s education in Canada up to high school graduation is free. You may also be eligible for several other benefits and privileges

Is FSCI recruiting only nurses?

Currently FSCI is only focused on nurses but in the future we will be recruiting other health care professionals such as pharmacists, technicians, and paramedics.

Where is the Medical Examination done?

If you are currently residing in Canada, it will be done here but other wise where ever you are residing at the time of application.

How long is the process?

The entire process from start to finish can take up to 8 months. It all depends on how complete your application is and how soon you can get all the necessary information sent out.

How long is the process if the applicant is already in Canada?

Approximately 4 to 6 months.

What happens if I fail the exam?

You are allowed to take the exams a maximum of 3 times. However if you fail the first time, your temporary license is automatically cancelled, however if you have registered to repeat the exam, you will continue to work in your temporary job but will have to pay for the reassessment (Just the licensing body fees). If you fail all three attempts, you will have to return to India or enroll in  the “Access to nursing Program” which is a 8 month program costing approximately $4000.  Your TOEFL/ IELTS results are valid for two years from date of passing after which you will have to re take the test.
